SCCP
Our History
Sociedad Cívica Cultural Panamá (SCCP) was founded in 1991 by a dedicated group of Panamanians and community leaders in Chicago, Illinois, united by a shared commitment to preserving their cultural heritage and strengthening civic bonds in their adopted home.
Our Founding
In the early 1990s, Chicago's Panamanian community recognized the need for a formal organization that could serve as a cultural anchor; a place where traditions could be honored, voices could be heard, and the next generation could grow up connected to their roots. SCCP was born from that vision.
Our Mission
SCCP exists to celebrate Panamanian culture, foster civic pride, and build meaningful connections within the greater Chicago area. Through cultural events, community service, and civic engagement, we work to ensure that Panamanian heritage remains vibrant and visible in the city we call home.
Fiestas Patrias & Cultural Programming
For over three decades, SCCP has organized Fiestas Patrias. Our annual celebration of Panamanian Independence Day, bringing together hundreds of community members for music, food, dance, and cultural pride. These events are a cornerstone of our identity and a testament to the enduring spirit of our community.
Path to 501(c)(3) Status
As we modernize and grow, SCCP is actively pursuing formal 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. This milestone will allow us to expand our programming, deepen our community impact, and ensure the long-term sustainability of our cultural mission.
